The 7th Annual Court2Court 5k Race

April 5, 2014 2 p.m.

Downtown Des Moines

The Public Interest Law Association’s Court2Court race is a benefit for Iowa Legal Aid’s Poverty Law Internship Program. For every dollar raised the Federal work study program will provide three dollars to support Drake University Law School students working for Iowa Legal Aid’s Poverty Law Internship Program.

We are excited to hold this year’s event during Iowa Supreme Court Week since the Court has been a major source of support for the Poverty Law Internship Program for 19 years. The Poverty Law Internship Program introduces Drake University Law School students to public service legal services careers by giving them opportunities to work at Iowa Legal Aid providing no or low-cost legal services to Iowans who would not otherwise have access.

Race registration is $20 per person before March 21, 2014.

The Court2Court 5k is open to walkers, casual runners, and serious racers. The 5k route begins at 2pm on April 5th at the Polk County Courthouse in downtown Des Moines, circles the Capitol and Iowa Supreme Court and returns to the Polk County Courthouse.

Register online at https://secure.getmeregistered.com/Court2Court5K. Or click here to print out a race brochure to pay at the starting line.

The success of the event depends on runners (and walkers) and sponsors. It is fitting that the Court2Court 5K Race be an integral part of the Iowa Supreme Court Week Activities at Drake Law School, as the Court has supported summer internships with Iowa Legal Aid for Drake Law students through IOLTA grants for the past nineteen years. As interest rates have declined in recent years supplemental funds have been necessary to support these summer Iowa Legal Aid internships, and the Drake PILA Court2Court fundraiser has filled this critical need. Sponsors will get a big bang for their bucks, for every dollar raised Drake University will contribute three dollars from its Federal Work Study funding to support Drake University Law School students working for Iowa Legal Aid’s Poverty Law Internship Program.

Sponsorship opportunities are available as follows:
Friends $250 Firm name on all race T-shirts given to all registrants, and four complimentary race registrations.
Advocates $500 Firm name and logo on all race T-shirts given to all registrants and banner and six complimentary race registrations.
Leaders (Limit 3) Must pledge by 2/28/14 to receive full benefits. $1000 Firm name and logo prominently on # race T-shirts, given to all registrants. Name and logo on and event banner. Complimentary race registrations for up to 15 employees. Firm named as a sponsor in all Drake-initiated press releases, firm name and logo displayed on registration site and Facebook acknowledgments.

Sponsorship may be cash, in-kind, or both. Leader-level sponsorships are limited to the first three pledges made, and must be pledged by 2/28 to receive full benefits. The deadline for all other levels to be acknowledged in 2014 race materials is March 28. Sponsorship pledges made after March 28th will be acknowledged in 2015.

To become a sponsor, please e-mail Alexis Rowe at alexis.rowe@drake.edu as soon as possible and we will send an invoice including Drake University’s tax ID number for those who wish to deduct promotional sponsorships as charitable donations.
