Spring 2009

Stay tuned for the upcoming success of Drake's Spring Teams.

In February the Drake National Moot Court Team moved on to the National Finals in New York City!  Ashley Dose, Kevin Teets, and Tyler Eason received the award for the Third Place Brief in the Country!  The team made it all the way through to the quarter-final round!

Also in February the Client Counseling teams competed at their regional competition in St. Paul, MN.  The team of Curt Steger and Elizabeth Meyer had a strong performance.  The team of Jenna Green and Wendy Bucy made it through to the semi-finals!  As a result of Bucy and Green's strong performance, Drake will host the competition on February, 2010!

Valentine's Day Weekend rolled around and Drake hosted to the National Trial Competition at the Polk County Courthouse.  The team of Kevin Teets, Nick Noble, and Luke Craven had a strong showing.  The team of Shannon Archer and Steve Cooper made it through all the way to the final round!  Both Drake teams did very well and we were proud to host the tournament.

In March the AAJ Mock Trial Teams competed in Chicago, IL.  Both teams did well and are already thinking about next year.  The team members were Amanda Brookhyser, Tim Carey, Peter Larkin, Kevin Hathaway, Richard Grove, Pamela Simons, Natasha Heinen, Angela Davis, and Michael Bousselot.

 The ABA Mock Trial Teams competed at the Eighth Circuit Courthouse in St. Louis, MO.  The team members were Michele Warnock, Philip DeKoster, Peter Leo, Sean Beaver, Robert Stewart, and Erin Grundy. 

The Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court Teams competed in Chicago in late March after writing two briefs each!  The team members were Julia Ofenbakh, Jon Soike, Matthew Sease, and Christopher Steffe.  Both teams did extremely well.


As another very successful year for our teams comes to a close, we are excited for a new year and new team members to emerge and thrive.  Stay tuned for our teams progress in Fall, 2009!

Fall 2008

Once again the Drake Moot Court, Mock Trial, and Skill's teams have had a very successful competition season and we're looking forward to the spring competitions!

In early November the Negotiations Teams competed at the Regional Competition in Omaha, NE.  Both teams worked very hard and gave strong performances at the regional competition.  The team consisted of Wendy Bucy, Rachel Davis, Nicole Olson, and Tameeka Purchase.  The team was coached by new coach Cory Abbas.

In mid-November Drake's first ABA Arbitration teams competed at the regional competition in Chicago, IL.  Both teams did well and learned the intricacies of a new competition.  The teams consisted of Kimberly Borcherding, Machelle Crum, Jonah Dyer, Peter Geirut, Jenna Green, Richard Grove, Shannon Redd, and Katie Tushaus. Both teams were coached by Larry McLellan.

Shortly before Thanksgiving the National Moot Court Teams had another very successful year in Iowa City, IA.  The team of Ashley Dose, Kevin Teets, and Tyler Eason came in second overall and will compete at the National Finals in New York City  in Feburary, 2009!  Dose, Teets, and Eason also had the second place Petitioner's Brief.  Teets was named the best oralist in the final rounds and we wish them luck at Nationals!  The second team of Erin Grundy, Miriam Van Heukelem, and Zach Hindman was defeated in the semi-finals.  Grundy, Van Heukelem, and Hindman had the second-place Respondent's brief and Grundy was named the best oralist overall through the quarter-finals.

Spring 2008

  Drake is extremely proud of its teams this year! All have worked long, hard hours in preparing for competition and everyone reaped the rewards of such hard work.

 In early November, the Negotiations Team competed at the Regional Competition in Minneapolis, MN. Both teams did well and are looking forward to next year’s competition. Congratulations to team members:  Minniette Bucklin, Christine Halbrook, Tara Lawrence, Laura Barnaby, & Meggan Guns.  Both teams were coached by Noel McKibben.

 The National Moot Court team competed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at their Regional Competition, in late November. Once again, the teams made a strong showing. Both teams made it to the semi-finals and were awarded 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place oralists as well as 3rd and 5th place briefs. Congratulations to team members Jacob Lofgren, Ashley Dose, Kevin Teets, Erin Grundy, Miriam Van Heukelem, and David James.  Both teams were coached by Professor Laurie Dore and alumna Emily Peebler.  

 The Client Counseling team enjoyed tremendous success this year. 

 The National Environmental Moot Court team competed in the Environmental Competition at Pace University, in White Plains, New York. The team once again made a great showing at the tournament, and we are quite proud. Congratulations to Jordan Kaplan and Fritz Ebinger.

 The National Mock Trial team also competed in February. The team members were Kathy Panaszek, Joe Crisp, David James, Kevin Teets, and Shannon Archer.  Congratulations to the entire team and their coaches: Steve Foritano and Mike Salvner, whom I know are already to go for next year when Drake hosts their competition!

  The two ABA Moot Court teams competed in St. Louis, MO in March and once again proved that Drake is always a factor in Moot Court competitions. The members of the team were Aimee Clayton, Michele Warnock, Roxanne Riedle, Kathy Panaszek, Andrea Jensen, and Sean Beaver The team’s coach is Drake alumnus and former National team member Donn Stanley.

The Giles Sutherland Intellectual Moot Court Teams did very well in their Chicago Regional in March.  Congratulations to team members Jonathon Soike, Jules Ofenbakh, Jon Sievers, and Brad Powers.  Both teams were coached by attorneys from the firm of McKee, Vorhees, and Sease. 

 The AAJMock Trial teams competed in March in Denver and Chicago. The team of Amanda James, Peter Larkin, Tim Carey, & Lynzey Tharp did very well at the Chicago regional.  The team of Patrick McElyea, Amanda Brookhyser, Meggan Guns, and Todd Smith won the Denver Regional and will compete at the National Competition in South Beach, FL from April 4th-7th! Both teams were coached by alumni and former team members Matthew Eslick and Kurt Van Thomme. As you can see, Drake has once again had great success with its moot court, mock trial and skills teams this year! I think we can all be confident that the success will continue in the years to come!
