The ABA-Law Student Division is the law student branch of the national professional organization with which you will have contact for your entire legal career, the American Bar Association. There are various opportunities to publish, hone advocacy and leadership skills, meet friends and attorneys from the local, regional and national community through the ABA.

LEADERSHIP

  • Law School ABA Representative – The ABA representative is one of the most important positions in the Law Student Division. The primary purpose of the ABA. law school representative is to advocate on behalf of the ABA Law Student Division Members at their school, serve as the school’s point person on the ABA and the Law Student Division, to promote the ABA and Law Student Division, and to communicate the benefits and value of ABA membership at their law school. The ABA Representative to the SBA is a member of the ABA Drake Law School Division Committee and the ABA Student Organization Benefits Chair. The Drake Law School Division Committee consists of members for each class which chair ABA sponsored activities including: Work-A-Day, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, Diversity Day, Mental Health and Wellness, Law Day, and ABA Membership. The ABA Drake Law School Division Committee works with all student organizations to further the collaboration and implementation of programs and partnering with the organizations to help student successfully complete their law school careers.
  • The ABA Representative provides an important connection between Drake University Law School and the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association. The ABA Representative and the SBA President serve as our School’s two official voting delegates to the ABA Law Student Division Assembly (the policy-making body of the Division).
  • National/Regional Positions in the ABA Law Student Division – On a regional level, law student members may serve as Governors or Lieutenant Governors. On a national level, law student members may serve as National Officers, Division Delegates of Liaisons. Additionally, members may be appointed to National Student Directors of the following programs: Arbitration Competition, Client Counseling Competition, National Appellate Advocacy Competition, Negotiation Competition and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
